It's even worse than that. Some Linux distributions (Fedora, Debian)
don't have .so symlinks to the various .so.x.y.z files (or not to all
of them). This is not gtk-specific, I ran into this with
postgresql before.
Also, I had to change :version from :wild to :newest to please ACL
(this seems to be a bug in ACL6.2/Linux).
Other than these, both CMU and ACL compiled and ran cl-gtk without a
hitch. Nice!
