OY, it just occurred to me that I should have let everyone know that 
Bjorn had sent me a re-zip of Frank's Linux port, so not to waste your 
time. My apologies to anyone duplicating the effort. Was Frank's version 
not a problem to anyone on Linux, or should I put Bjorn's version up on 
the ftp?

btw, correction: scrolling is working fine. The problem I have is with 
clipping. Looks easy, though I am confident I will grok opengl that much 
better by the time I have it fixed.
