Ah, thank's - that solved it! I wasn't able to install my latest compile
(due to some problem with loaddefs.el) after coming back from vacation
and hence missed the bugfix/patch that seems to have made it into CVS
emacs.

I'll try to find the cause of my installation problem so i can try to 
get the latest CVS emacs running but meanwhile  Brian's patch works.

Thank's a lot, slime is so much fun to use - hat bug brought back
memories of the dark ilisp times ;-)
