I used the same boehm-gc-7.1 package from pkgsrc-2009Q1 (built with
threading support) for both 8.12.0 and later ECL versions.  This one is
also used by inkscape, elinks which work fine.  However, stalin with it
also appears to segfault and loop endlessly.  -current pkgsrc seems to
also still have 7.1.  Is there a specific version you recommend which
works for you?

Interestingly, the official site appears to recommend version 6.8 for
stability, and then the non-alpha latest one at
http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Hans_Boehm/gc/gc_source/ if problems
arise with 6.8 (which is also 7.1).
