This is definitely a problem with the merge. In my patches I
explicitely shadowed TYPEP and the other symbols introducing new ones
in th MAXIMA package. The versions for Maxima perform useful
optimizations also in interpreted mode, because these functions are
used heavily in the code. Now, anyone can have a look at the old
patches and see why the shadowing statements are not working or
whether they have disappeared. I am going on holidays right now :-)
