Not on my system. I regularly build ECL with --prefix=$HOME and as you
see below, the library directory is properly set. Is this FreeBSD or
some other modified version of ECL?

-Wl,--rpath,/home/jlr/lib/ecl -L/home/jlr/lib/ecl -lecl    -ldl  -lm
