Thanks very much for the hints- they're exactly the kind of thing I
was looking for.

The RTOS has complete exception handling & a tty console.
Hardware-wise we have a logic analyzer & scope we use for tracking
down runtime bugs. Not particularly easy, but once you get the hang
of it, fairly productive. An ICE would be useful, but unfortunately
our project doesn't rate one.
