Message-ID: <58f839b70602071451m1a377ccs40e4456a2cdf851c@mail.gmail.com> Hi. First: I've created this mailinglist (users at common-lisp.net) so I can reach you all at once. Only the maintainer of the server (ie moi) can post to this list and I intend to do so as rarely as I can get away with. I'm emailing you today because I'm worried about all the brute force SSH attacks on clnet and I think I have a solution which may affect how you authenticate with clnet via SSH. What I propose to do is disallow password-based logins and only allow publickey-based ones. This basically means that everyone is forced to do passwordless logins which is a win-win, I think. However, you may feel otherwise, thus this email. Reply to me with your thoughts on why I should not do this. After hearing your thoughts and if I still want to go ahead with it I'll email this list with the date by which you should have your public key configured and set up. If we do this I'll also add a mini-howto section to the FAQ describing how to do this. Thanks, Erik. We are moving to a new server and a new colocation facility in an effort to deal with our stability issues. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience. I'll send out an email to this list when all is well again. Thanks, Erik. Message-ID: <58f839b70602241407w5e4159d5nefa89c25be48ea9a@mail.gmail.com> Greetings, Several of the 169 projects we are currently hosting at common-lisp.net have been abandoned by their original owners. Some of these projects are still useful to others who would like to continue to maintain them. I propose the following procedure for taking over an abandoned project: - Day 1: email admin at common-lisp.net, -devel at common-lisp.net and @wherever.com and ask that you be given the ownership of the project. - Day 10: send the same email to the same recipients - Day 20: send the same email to the same recipients - Day 30: send the same email to the same recipients - Day 31: I will reply notifying you that you are now the owner. If at any point someone from the -devel list or the owner himself replies we can take it from there. I will create a template that you can paste into your mail client which details what's going on (you'll just have to replace the project's name). What do you think? Is this a reasonable procedure? Reply to me and tell me why this isn't going to work or why I need to change this and how. I will read all replies and create a policy which would work for most of us. Thanks, Erik. How do you define "abandoned"? A project is considered abandoned when you can't get ahold of the owner of the project. The owner of the project is the person who can add/remove others, essentially (the one who created the project). Of course, you could claim that you tried to get ahold of the owner for a whole five minutes and he didn't reply to your email which is why I want the 30-day waiting period to make sure he's really missing and can't be gotten in touch with.
