I have been using LWL-5.1 Pers without REPLACE-STRINGS-WITH-SYMBOLS and
have not encountered any problem that REPLACE-STRINGS-WITH-SYMBOLS
solves.

Is there a test case which fails if REPLACE-STRINGS-WITH-SYMBOLS is not
used?
