helmut: i guess i could understand changing the default to nil or
something but i don't see why you'd want to drop it totally. Sure it's
bloat and it's ugly and Real Men don't waste cpu cycles on eye candy,
but still it's only 10 lines, it has something of a cult following
and, from where i'm standing, your commit seems a bit drastic.

was this something in a private branch of yours which got commited by
accident?
