I did not check what you changed but it didn't help, Matthias.
The exact behaviour is:
When (after starting Slime) I type a ( as the first character I get
this error. If I type something else, e.g. a *, and press Return the
error does not show up. I should mention that I have bound ( to
paredit-open-list which worked so far without problems (using
paredit.el, of course).
