Perhaps you can fire up a stand-alone Lisp and try calling:

  (swank:find-definitions-for-emacs "get-projects-for-costs")

and see if it drops you into a debugger where you can do some decent
poking around? Probably worth whacking it with a SIGINT to see what
it's upto during the long pause.
