asdf needs to be told where your software is when that software isn't
at one of the standard places (which include ~/common-lisp/ in its
asdf 3.1 and later, but not in earlier versions of asdf;
~/.local/share/common-lisp/source/ is in all versions since asdf 2.0).
See the manual for how to configure your source-registry.

Note that while the central registry is still supported,
it is actively disrecommended to use the ASDF 1 style:
(setf asdf:*central-registry* '(*default-pathname-defaults*))
This defeats the desired reproducibility of locating source code.

Instead, try e.g. to have your
~/config/common-lisp/source-registry.conf as follows:
(:source-registry
 (:tree (:home "some/subdirectory/"))
 :inherit-configuration)
