1. Was there any particular reason for not using quicklisp? There
should be no "try to build" with quicklisp - it's supposed to Just
Work.
(ql:quickload :cl-pdf)
2. cl-pdf.asd (which is what quickload will load) gives you a choice
of compressions. Salza is implemented in lisp.
