Out of curiosity, how does Verrazano handle a pointer to char vs. a 
string. Would it be possible to specify in the binding declaration the 
default conversion of char* to be CFFI's :string?

That way you'd have:

PCRE> (pcre-version)
"4.5 01-December-2003"
