[elephant-devel] MAP-CLASS should support small transactions

I've noticed that MAP-CLASS wraps the whole op in one large
transaction. This is often neither necessary nor feasible.

I think we should support a keyword arg to choose the behaviour.

If no one objects then I'm going to prepare a patch for review.
