[elephant-devel] a few minor fixes/changes

hi marco,

 	thank you for your patches.  i am currently finishing and 
preparing to defend my dissertation, so i'm a little bit busy right now. 
but as soon as that is finished (mid-may), i will review and incorporate 
these (and the other pending patches).
