hello all

3 of us from LispWorks are going to the European Common Lisp meeting
and will travel by train to Amsterdam on Saturday 22 October, probably
on the 08:57 Eurostar from London St Pancras via Brussels.

Would you like to travel with us?

If there's enough interest LispWorks could buy another "Lambda
Express" group ticket which would allow us all to sit together and
save a little money.

Please reply with expressions of interest, as soon as possible, and
definitely by the end of this week.

The minimum number for a group ticket is 10 people. 


Journey details
---------------
We'll probably choose this outbound journey (Sat 22 Oct):

So we won't make the Saturday pm tour, but will be in plenty of time
to get to the evening meal.

If we buy a group ticket, we'll consult re details of the return
journey (Mon 24 Oct), before confirming the ticket.


Cost
----
A group ticket is 10% cheaper per person than if individual tickets
are purchased at the same time.

If we bought a group ticket (return, standard class) for 10 people
today, it would cost ?93.50pp, whereas individual tickets are
currently ?104. It's likely we'll actually pay slightly more, as
prices increase closer to the journey date.

If we buy a group ticket, travelling companions would pay us back at
cost, like we did for ECLM2008:

Sadly no. My company arranged a small appartment for me to rent so I never
needed a hotel or lodging and I am not 'plugged into' that market

Judging by the number of tourists and visitors there should not be a problem
getting accommodation via the internet.  Don't worry if you can't get
somewhere next to the venue, the public transport system is very good. But
don't even think of renting a car.  It's very expensive and there is nowhere
to park.

Hi Zach,

I'm a local.

Amsterdam has hotels of all sorts to suit all wallets so it depends a lot
on what you're looking for.

ECLM is being held in Hotel Arena which is a comfortable hotel, slightly
quirky and pleasantly located in a park close to the centre of the city.

If you have any questions about specific hotels, areas or generally about
your stay in the city, feel free to ask. I'd be glad to help.

Reserve early if you can. In the course of the year Amsterdam has many
large events which means that hotel room availability can sometimes get
difficult.

One thing I would recommend for visiting Amsterdam is to rent a bicycle.

local Dutch account number for a domestic transfer from another Dutch
bank? Is it just the numeric portion of the IBAN number?

I've never slept in an Amsterdam hotel myself, but this question
has been asked and answered more than once on this mailing list.
So it should be possible to find some decent info in the archives.

Hi Arthur,

 I just went to pay for the walking tour and 2 dinners but the chart
doesn't show any amount "to pay" for me -- are the dinners and tour
included because I am a speaker? (not expecting that, but just
checking since there is no amount showing... ;)

That's right.  Speakers don't have to pay for tour or dinners at the ECLM.
