That is the source of your problems. Current versions of the garbage
collector do not support gengc together with threads. ECL is supposed to
know this but somehow the mechanism for that does not work.

ECL's texinfo documentation is outdated and it is no longer present in the
source tree. This dependency can be removed.

If Debian insists on having some documentation around, you should use the
HTML one
