     It lays its roots in the LISP programming language [LISP1.5]

by John McCarthy in the 80s.

This sentence is ambiguous. I'd formulate it as:

    Common Lisp was standardized in the 1980s. It lays its roots in the 
LISP programming language [LISP1.5] 
<http://ecls.sourceforge.net/new-manual/bi01.html#bib.LISP1.5> developed 
by John McCarthy in the 1960s.
