I'm not familiar enough with the concept to comment on the change for
now, although I did notice problems with conditions happening in
threads when using slime (the top-level thread is unaffected and slime
shows no problem yet threads block in the interactive debugger on a
stream alien to slime, it seems).

When using ECL's own REPL (I do this from within emacs to obtain decent
line editing) I do see the debugger show up however, so it seems to be
a swank-specific issue...
