Thanks.  Using current CVS FriCAS builds fine.  For the record,
I build ecl on 64-bit Fedora 9 using default settings.

I also collected some timings:

       ecl-8.12         ecl-9.3          ecl-8.12       ecl-9.3

real	9m1.700s        8m8.030s         76m50.546s     79m41.870s
user	8m32.353s       7m37.818s        66m10.226s     65m31.463s
sys	0m23.812s       0m30.211s         3m28.420s      6m54.936s

On one long-running test using ecl-9.3 I get 61.12s runtime while
using ecl-8.12 I get 74.25s.  So for normal use ecl-9.3 gives
significantly faster code.  ATM I do not know why I get so
large systme time during build.
