I am in Europe, so these connection problems are not really local. I
have experienced problems, in the past and also with Sourceforge, when
starting with this git thing, because the version I had in my computer
was too old.

I know that using git:// repositories would help. However, I do not
have internet connection at home and my computer at the office sits
behind a firewall that blocks all ports including ssh and those that
git uses for its protocol. Therefore, I must stick to http and
pre-packaged repositories.

What I can do, though, is to make tarballs of the repo and make them
available for download, so that you can at least start a connection
http://ecls.sourceforge.net/git/ecl.tar.bz2

BTW,

Juanjo
