[Ecls-list] Problemas compiling on x86_64 but with 32 bit linux

I'm trying to compile ecl on Ubuntu linux - x86. But my computer has a x86_64 processor. 
The configure script is recognizing my system as a x86_64 even though
$uname -m
i686


When compiling, it obviously gives an error on file ffi_x86_64.c

How can I fix this?
(well I was able to compile just changing every mention of ffi_x86_64.o to ffi_x86.o in src/configure but this is not very pretty...)
