ECL itself uses winsock.h in the core and winsock2.h in sb-sockets, so
using winsock2.h should cause no problems and I am quite surprised
about your problems.

I am not sure which one is best: I do not know much about Windows
programming myself. Perhaps a windows expert here may help.
