Have you reported this to the GMP community?
On a side note, since ECL can be linked against third-party versions of
the GMP library, it might be a good idea to package your changes to the
source code and to the configuration files and make source tarball that
users can build before building ECL itself. Furthermore, building GMP
must only be done once, even if one updates the ECL source tree later
on.
We could host your version of GMP with some instructions in the
"Installing ECL" page.
