Another thing is that "ecl-config --libs" seems to output /usr/local/lib/ecl
despite having been configured (and installed
in) --prefix=/usr/local/ecl-0.9i, ie,

$ /usr/local/ecl-0.9i/bin/ecl-config --libs
-Wl,--rpath,/usr/local/lib/ecl -L/usr/local/lib/ecl -lecl    -ldl  -lm
