The admin seems to think that an SORBS is the one and only truth, but they even want money to get one delisted and they even blacklist major German ISPs... %-) So I have to address you privately. Maybe you can forward this message to the list. ;-) Ren? --------- Hi, currently we use the people.debian.org repository of Peter for backported packages for Common Lisp. There is a more central place for Debian backports available: http://backports.org and I think we should be using this one. So, what benefits am I seeing from this? The major argument for me is that backports.org is autobuilt. The backports of SBCL and other implementations in Peter's repository are only for i386, but users of other architectures might as well be interested in a SBCL backport. (in particular: myself ;-) ) Fortunately, most of the CL libraries are architecture independent, but some are not. Additionally: backports.org is mirrored across multiple places and users that want to use backports of different packages only need to use one repository in their sources.list. So, this is not meant to sound demanding, I am only asking for opinions on this. I started preparing packages of dh-lisp, common-lisp-controller and sbcl for Backports.org and I'd upload them, so that the basic layer to build the CL-Debian suite is available. [1] I am going continue backporting more packages and possibly reducing some load from Peter, who otherwise backports all the packages for his backport in the URLs below:repository. Ren? [1] In about a week, after my return from LinuxTag. So, if anybody on this list is attending the event and wants to talk about Lisp, come to the Debian booth: http://wiki.debian.org/LinuxTag2006 -- Ren? van Bevern http://progn.org http://www.debian.org http://www.pro-linux.de ------------------------------------------------------- Groetjes, Peter -- signature -at- pvaneynd.mailworks.org http://www.livejournal.com/users/pvaneynd/ "God, root, what is difference?" Well, not all the world is C and the address-space available to applications for me (and for cmucl/sbcl and friends) are an implicit part of the API. So there is no way to 'fix' this feature, unless upstream decides to radically redesign the implementation. The package is lintian- and linda-clean, build on pbuilder and it's available on the CL-Debian darcs repository on alioth. BTW, the version changed: actually, upstream tagged version 0.3.2, but then two other darcs commits were applied, to I decided to use the darcs checkout date as version (like similar packages like cl-arnesi or cl-s-xml). Here I am. I should be able to give some love to my Debian packages this weekend, and (hopefully) have more spare time starting from June. If it won't happen, I'll "officially" ask for a new maintainer. (Unless there's someone ready and eagerly waiting to take over the packages, of course). I'm sorry, I have been *very* busy, but I didn't ask for help because I didn't receive any bug report (unless I've lost some private email) and I was quite fine with the current versions of my packages. Yes, I know, I'm lame. I have got two things to fix ATM (other than new upstream versions): 1. a patch from Ren? for url-rewrite (2006-05-14); 2. an issue with TBNL (tests fail due to a weird interaction with common-lisp-controller. I'm still looking for a solution, but I think I'll need some help...) Message-ID: <446FDC9E.2020809@corp.netease.com> Package: cl-sql-uffi Version: 3.6.1-1 This bug made me cannot use cl-sql-postgresql correctly. In clsql-uffi-loader.lisp file (in cl-sql-uffi package): (defvar *clsql-uffi-library-filenames* (list #+(or 64bit x86-64) "clsql_uffi64" "clsql_uffi")) It seems that on amd64 it'll load library "clsql_uffi64.so" instead of "clsql_uffi.so", but there's no "clsql_uffi64.so" existed at /usr/lib/clsql or any other directory! I've also worked on cl-ironclad: the latest upstream version is on alioth repos. But the cryptographic tests don't work, due to a common-lisp-controller incompatibility: compiled files are being searched in the wrong place. I remember tests worked the last time I tried them: some months ago, with the current version of the cl-ironclad package. Now they fail as well, *maybe* it could be related to newest versions of clc... Or maybe I don't remember very well :-) The new package *seems* to work, anyway (well, at least it survives some manual fiddling without errors). As I said, it wasn't README.Debian, but the upstream README. In the package version 1:20060513-1, I added a README.Debian to explain how to use the SLIME swank together with StumpWM. I'm not inclined to add specific information about how to start StumpWM to the README.Debian, as the upstream README is quite self-explanatory. I hope that's clear. It makes it easy to go from strings or files to
strings or files in any supported format (i.e., in HTML ).

There is still some distance to go before the basics are complete but
things are starting to look pretty good.

From read at robertlread.net Sat May 27 20:05:07 2006
From: read at robertlread.net (Robert L. Read)
Date: Sat, 27 May 2006 15:05:07 -0500
Subject: [cl-debian] [ann] [elephant-announce] Elephant 0.6.0 is now
	released.
Message-ID: <1148760307.3759.290.camel@localhost.localdomain>

The latest release of the Elephant persistent object store is now
available.
It is numbered 0.6.0. It may be obtained from the project page either
as a downloaded tgz file, or you make access it via anonymous CVS.

http://common-lisp.net/project/elephant/

Ian Eslick made most of the code contributions to this release, which
features a very elegant method of indexing the slots of a persistent
class.
For developers, the internals of Elephant were also significantly
refactored
by Ian. Additionally, a layer of data management on top of Elephant
that
implements a Director-like pattern called Data Collection Management has
been added to the contrib directory.

In addition to personally thanking Ian, I would like to say that I
personally
think Elephant has grown into an extraordinarily useful project. Let
me
just review the major advantages of Elephant as a persistent object
store:

1) Extraordinarily convenient for the programmer,
2) An extensive test suite,
3) Tested on several major LISP implementations (ACL, SBCL, OpenMCL),
4) Ability to use multiple back-end data repositories and to migrate
whole
data stores seamlessly between those repositories,
5) Ability to BerkeleyDB, PostGres, SQLite 3, and probably other back-
end
databases,
6) Extremely convenient slot and functional indexing that can be
dynamically
changed.

The overall effect of these features together is that Elephant is very
flexible for
serious application development: you can change fundamental
implementation
decisions easily as your application evolves.

Subject: [cl-debian] Bug#369604: cltl: cltl2-root-url setup at top level
Message-ID: <871wucgvlq.fsf@zip.com.au>

Package: cltl
Version: 1.0.19
Severity: wishlist
File: /etc/emacs/site-start.d/60cltl.el

It'd be nice if the setup in 60cltl.el

	(setq cltl2-root-url "/usr/share/doc/cltl/")

was done at the top level instead of in ilisp-load-hook. The cltl2.el
package can be used without running up ilisp mode.

ii wget 1.10.2-1 retrieves files from the web

Heya,

You're depending on a non-existant package (and I don't see something
fitting waiting in NEW).

Marc

Lack of a manual page, and the post-debconf Mexican trip. I started writing
it, but I got confused with the semantics of cl-launch. Maybe somebody that
actually uses it should write a man page :-)
