(so be sure to use the -d switch with dh-lisp if you deliver ECL's FASLs in your packages) dh-lisp 0.6, as I just pushed it to [12]my repository -- although I have not released it yet -- does solve this misfeature by better detecting file types and explicitly ignoring ECLs files. There is code in dh-lisp to automatically add dependencies for ECL, but it is commented out, because there is (should be) a better way to handle it: each ECL binary links with libecl.so, so the ecl package -- once it comes into Debian -- should bring a shlibs description and dh_shlibdeps should better solve this dependency. In case somebody proves me wrong and it turns out that shlibs don't work well in this case, I can just uncomment this code. ;-) However, the usual features of dh-lisp also work for ECL: installation of the implementation and their maintainer scripts and (of course) installing CL libraries. 11. http://ecls.sf.net/ 12. http://cl-debian.alioth.debian.org/repository/rvb Ren? -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... The libecl.so file is not a 'library' in a traditional sense in that it publishes an API that C programs can use. I assume there is a stronger connection between a ecl-generated program and the ecl version as a whole then what you would expect from the library alone. So does it make sense to have a separate libecl package? Groetjes, Peter -- signature -at- pvaneynd.mailworks.org http://www.livejournal.com/users/pvaneynd/ "God, root, what is difference?" I really don't have deep knowledge of ECL's internals, sorry. That's why I have written the preliminary code for ECL-dependency handling in dh-lisp. libecl.so differs from "normal" libraries in at least the thing that it does not provide a SONAME (which might already make the shlibs system awkward to use in this case). I also don't know if ECL generated programs need only libecl or more. Ren? -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... According to upstream the libecl.so interface is not firmly defined at all, so he suggests to just have an ecl package that people can refer to. In effect I'm also breaking another debian rule in that the library has rpath defined :-S. Honestly I do not think we will ever see the day a 'stable' libecl comes out, the integration of ecl and libecl is just too large. So in short: make the packages depend on the exact version of ecl used to build them. The symptom is that the first I load and compiles a system, for instance with `clc-require', it works as expected. However, on subsequent starts of lisp, the load of the (now compiled) system fails. The full error log is below, but the error encountered is: The name "ASDF1073" does not designate any package. The system being loaded in this example is the :regex system of the "cl-regex" package (in version 1-1). The cause of the problem is not entirely clear to me, but I suspect the code for `find-system' in /usr/share/common-lisp/source/asdf/asdf.lisp. It contains the following: (let ((*package* (make-package (gensym #.(package-name *package*)) :use '(:cl :asdf)))) which will generate a new unique package at each run. However, that package is not likely to exist in another run of lisp. Even if a new package is generated in the new session, in all probability it will have a different name. How that interferes with reloading of systems is unclear, but I am guessing that systems that contains files without an explicit `in-package' will get a fasl file that contains a reference to this temporary package, but without code to make sure that it exists. At least the packages.lisp file of the cl-regex package is an example of such an file. Trace of the error encountered: The name "ASDF1073" does not designate any package. If someone wants to help, here a roadmap, with the remaining issues... Strictly speaking, to have a simply UCW server up and running you don't need the whole bunch of packages I reported in the past [1]. In fact, if you use the internal httpd backend, you don't need any external web server. ATM, the following packages are already present in Debian and can be used without modification (and with modifications I don't include upstream updates, but "strong" hacking). They are: - arnesi - yaclml - iterate - cl-ppcre - puri - split-sequence - parenscript (in the NEW queue, see bug #349607 [2]) Other packages are present in Debian, but...: - SLIME swank, which thank to Peter doesn't depends on the Emacs code, but I'm suffering of a strange bug [3] on systems without the common-lisp-controller. - rfc2388 needs to be synchronized with the BESE version, see posts at [4] and [5] for more info. - detachtty needs an upgrade, at least including bug #282641 [6], which is a better solution than bug #282640 [7]). Probably it needs also a new maintainer, as the bugs are really old. The last two packages are not present in Debian: - rfc2109 [8], I already started the packaging and I'm waiting an answer from the author for a small license clarification. - trivial-sockets [9], I'm waiting an answer from the upstream author, who turns out to be the same as detachtty and also a Debian maintainer. Moreover, I just finished to test a series of patches that render UCW highly configurable without touching the source code, starting the UCW server throught the cl-launch script [10], which is already packaged by its upstream author, but not present in Debian. However, cl-sql-mysql hardcodes a dependency on the former, so rebuilding it against a new version of libmysqlclient15-dev is ineffective. (Granted, cl-sql-uffi's tight dependency on cl-sql still keeps binary-only NMUs from being effective, but that's another matter.) Anyway, the following patch drops hardcoded dependencies on runtime library packages in favor of using ${shlibs:Depends}, which I've confirmed yields correct dependencies; could you please apply it, or at the very least update the hardcoded dependencies? That is right. Debian Unstable still has dh-lisp 0.5, that is completely unaware of ECL and can happend to confuse its fas files with the ones of Clisp. dh-lisp 0.6 is aware of ECL, pushes the CLC dependencies to CLC 5 and does not confuse ECL with Clisp anymore. I asked Peter to upload dh-lisp 0.6 a week ago and uploaded it to http://progn.org/~rvb/dh-lisp and had not synchronized my Darcs repository at that time, which he noticed. I don't know where the problem is hanging now. :-) dh-lisp 0.5 adds a dependency on the old CLC, while ECL has a manually added CLC dependency of higher version, which results in two dependencies on CLC. If dh-lisp 0.6 was finally uploaded ;-) ECL wouldn't need any specifica related to CL dependencies or similar things anymore. For building ECL with dh-lisp, it should also use the -d switch, so that no wrong Clisp dependency is added. If dh_lisp 0.5 finds a clisp on the system that is used to build the current ECL, it will add a false Clisp dependency. You never know what is installed on the buildds, they don't always clean everything after builds. So, getting dh-lisp 0.6 in would be a nice thing. That's fine. MIPS has 3 different ABIs and you can run a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit userland - which is what I did, so I had: #define _MIPS_SZLONG 32 So that's probably wht MIPS4 didn't get defined. > This is then used in src/arilev1.d to load the 'correct file': > ... > #if defined(MIPS) > #if defined(MIPS64) > #include "arimips64.c" > #else > #include "arimips.c" > #endif > #endif Again, that look okay. However, that doesn't explain why I get a: | arilev1.d:263:29: error: arimips.c: No such file or directory It *should* include that file. Where's the code generating the .c file from the .d file? It seems this one doesn't work properly on a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit userland and uses the 64-bit version. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ From erick at fsl.org.mx Tue Mar 28 18:31:43 2006 From: erick at fsl.org.mx (Erick Ivaan Lopez Carreon) Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2006 12:31:43 -0600 Subject: [cl-debian] Bug#359761: common-lisp-controller pre-installation script error Message-ID: <1143570703.6931.10.camel@localhost.localdomain> Package: common-lisp-controller Version: 5.12 Hello: After upgrade this morning to common-lisp-controller_5.12_all.deb apt-get and dpkg fails to install the new package with this error output: ------------ dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/common-lisp-controller_5.12_all.deb (Reading database ... 85837 files and directories currently installed.) I had a quick look and despite some fundamental disagreements (like the cache beneath ~/) the package does look good. The only comment I can make is that it uses a dash (1.79-1) which for a native package is not good, in any case I would advice you to make it a non-native package so other people can upload fixes without increasing 'your' version needlessly. If you intend to support the package I would be happy to upload it for you. Well, you must understand that at least the default, portable, non-debian version of cl-launch CANNOT assume anything like the common-lisp-controller cache hierarchy. However, if you patch cl-launch to have it share the c-l-c cache when appropriate (which supposes we properly detect the lisp version, too, because I for one use both the debian sbcl and my own compiled sbcl's on the same machine -- but I suppose that if c-l-c is in the current image then it can be assumed to be the only c-l-c image for given implementation), then I'll be glad to include it upstream. > The only comment I can make is that it uses a dash > (1.79-1) which for a native package is not good, in any case I would advice > you to make it a non-native package so other people can upload fixes without > increasing 'your' version needlessly.
