What is "boot up lisp"? How it's being done? | > What command to run, packages to install. Etc. | | I would say that it's not too technical at all. If you know what | Common Lisp is, you should be able to understand the upstream README. | Moreover, this package is not intended for common end-user, but for | users that have a specific background. | | > Please provide step by stem intruction how to start this window | > system, otherwise README.Debian doe snot reflect the needs of | > regular Debian user. | | As I said, it wasn't README.Debian, but the upstream README. In the | package version 1:20060513-1, I added a README.Debian to explain how | to use the SLIME swank together with StumpWM The debian/control::Description reads: Description: a Common Lisp window manager StumpWM is a window manager written entirely in Common Lisp. It attempts to be highly customizable while relying entirely on the keyboard for input. You will not find buttons, icons, title bars, tool bars, or any of the other conventional GUI widgets. >From "StumpWM is a window manager written entirely in Common Lisp" it suggests, that is is just another window manager only that the host language is common lisp. Something is not connecting here. - Aa per you explanation, the the sescription string should differentiate stumpwm from the other regular "window managers" by saing that this one is for only people that understand how to use it with common lisp. Without this, the "joe", like me, expects after download to read /ysr/share/doc//README.* files in order to see what steps are needed to make the work unless it's setting itself up initially at install. | I'm not inclined to add specific information about how to start | StumpWM to the README.Debian, as the upstream README is quite | self-explanatory. I cc:ed this mail to the Common Lisp in Debian | mailing list [1], in order to have other comments/suggestions about | this bug. In case of no activity for 7 days, I'll tag this bug as | wont-fix. Currently - Description does not suggest anything to be different from standard WM - README* lacks information for anyone else but CL-knowledgeable. Please don't go away, before we can improve this :-) Jari From noreply at henning.makholm.net Sun Jun 4 21:08:41 2006 From: noreply at henning.makholm.net (Debian testing watch) Date: Sun, 04 Jun 2006 15:08:41 -0600 Subject: [cl-debian] s-xml 1:20060513-1 MIGRATED to testing Message-ID: FYI: The status of the s-xml source package in Debian's testing distribution has changed. In that light, would it make sense to create muproc-compat.txt (or porting.txt) and document the muproc-compat interface there? Alternatively, the documentation could also be written as comments in the :exports section of the defpackage form for the cl-muproc.compat package. There's a new version of cl-muproc incorporating Rudi's new with a few modifcations... I decided that with implementation specific files, muproc-compat.lisp did not make much sense. I think the package definition for cl-muproc.compat defines the required implementation specific functionality adequately, and decided to add a PORTING file briefly describing the intended structure of implementation specific code instead. The new version compiles without warnings and passes the test on Lispworks. Enjoy. -Klaus. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Well, as I already explained in my previous reply [1], you need a specific background in Common Lisp to use this WM. Moreover, the package section is specifically set to "devel" and not "x11" as most of the other WMs. > Something is not connecting here. > > - Aa per you explanation, the the sescription string should > differentiate stumpwm from the other regular "window managers" > by saing that this one is for only people that understand > how to use it with common lisp. Of these, arm and ia64 are currently release-critical architectures, which means the failures are preventing the fix for 346164 from propagating to testing. The failure on ia64 is: [...] echo '(setq *clhs-root-default* "http://www.lisp.org/HyperSpec/")' >> config.lisp ./lisp.run -B . -N locale -Efile UTF-8 -Eterminal UTF-8 -Emisc 1:1 -norc -m 1400KW -x "(and (load \"init.lisp\") (sys::%saveinitmem) (ext::exit)) (ext::exit t)" make[1]: *** [interpreted.mem] Aborted [...] A full build log can be found at . The arm failure looks like it may have been a temporarily broken header file on arm, or it may be a bad #define in clisp. The sparc one is completely different from the other two; it's not currently a release-critical issue, but should be treated with a high priority since sparc may be re-added as a release candidate soon. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. vorlon at debian.org http://www.debian.org/ -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... However, the gcl-doc package includes the HTML documentation generated with latex2html as well as the original TeX file and the PDF version (generated from the TeX file through pdflatex/tetex-bin, already in the dependencies). This means that the gcl-doc package is already built with latex2thml :-( This is the reason the patch included adds not only the missing dependencies, but also a new one on dpatch. It thus includes a patch which modifies the xgcl-2/makefile:all target to build only the PDF documentation. The patch has been prepared as an NMU and tested on a just-update sid pbuilder, because I'm passing the T&S step as a new maintainer. The command used is the following: debdiff gcl_2.6.7-15.dsc /var/cache/pbuilder/result/gcl_2.6.7-15.1.dsc BTW, I'm aware that Debian prefers HTML documentation, but I won't move a package to contrib only because the documentation can't be available as HTML, when it can be as PDF. A note can be added to the README.Debian, in order to instruct the user how to generate the HTML documentation form the original TeX file (which is anyway provided). In this case, I'll suggests latex2html. Thx, bye, Gismo / Luca -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I will not simply import the new cvs release, but actually convert every cvs commit into a darcs record, thus giving greater granularity and smaller patches. Thus resulting in fewer conflicts and hanging darcs. There are a few downsides: - the tailor stuff does not seem to be included in the darcs archive. I'm trying to work something out for that - I synced to HEAD, so most 'upstream' versions shifted. This is most noticeable for sbcl which is now at a in-between version. This should get resolved on the next release (end of this month). - I could not get clisp to import correctly. I kept getting killed after using several hundred megabytes of memory, so clisp is still using the old 'get the release, add, record and tag' treatment, until I can convince them to start using darcs :-). - You guys have to re-get my archives Groetjes, Peter -- signature -at- pvaneynd.mailworks.org http://www.livejournal.com/users/pvaneynd/ "God, root, what is difference?" I fear that without access to a sid chroot on sparc it will be impossible for me to go and fix this bug. A similar bug was opened for powerpc (#364688) and that I can not reproduce on any powerpc machine I have access to. My gut feeling is that with -O0 they too would disappear, so I'll wait for the results of the mips compile and then upload a package that forces -O0 on ia64, sparc and powerpc. > Groetjes, Peter -- signature -at- pvaneynd.mailworks.org http://www.livejournal.com/users/pvaneynd/ "God, root, what is difference?"
