I think the long-term solution should be to add terminfo support.
Termcap is long deprecated in favour of terminfo, and there hasn't
ever been termcap support for libc6 in Debian as far as I know.  This
dependency is just a hangover from the libc5 era.  Debian deprecated
termcap in 1999.

According to Peter Samuelson, converting to terminfo should be as
simple as linking with -lncurses rather than -ltermcap.  However, if
you aren't using libtermcap directly, this might be a harder task.
