Same happened to me over here on a freshly installed Ubuntu/Hoary.
This looks _suspiciously_ like the problem with build environment I
encountered on Debian/PPC a while ago: the test in contrib/bsd-sockets
fails (because of missing echo service?) and the module doesn't get
included into the package.

Well, the sbcl-9.nn seem to have a general slime problem.
