The project is an OLAP server for postgres, and will be made in lisp, probably SBCL. We have some lisp and C++ code, test data to compare with analysis services and tune for performance, and we did something similar in functionality but much slower in php and mysql. I'm not sure if the code should be placed under BSD or just public domain license. I don't like GPL much. In any case, for now it's BSD. The name of the project is Macondo OLAP Server. A short name could be macondoolap. If you accept this project, I will provide you the other members names in a following email, just because I do not have them at hand right now. -- Nicolay Giraldo ------------------------ We are Turing O-Machines The Oracle is out there From peter at gigamonkeys.com Wed Dec 7 22:52:35 2005 From: peter at gigamonkeys.com (Peter Seibel) Date: Wed, 7 Dec 2005 14:52:35 -0800 Subject: [admin] cl-gardeners (nee cl-janitors) Message-ID: <8E7DC83E-4C40-46F0-8DC2-6865266E83F7@gigamonkeys.com> Hey guys, I'd like to create a project for the cl-janitors thingy that's been discussed recently on c.l.l. That sounds very interesting. A little googling and asking around sugests that you are not part of / in contact with the guys maintaining Garnet at sourceforge, http://garnetlisp.sourceforge.net/ Perhaps you may wish to contact them? I'm sure that if you gang up you'll likely make a better impact. > Therefore, I am planning to release it under a new major number > version and ask you for the project to be hosted on > common-lisp.net since this seems the most logical place for a new > Lisp project nowadays. Name: Lester Vecsey Description: Calendar and date functions for working with TAI, Temps Atomique International, time. License: LGPL Group members: None This project would have many of the functions from the public domain C library libtai, at http://cr.yp.to/libtai.html The real benefit here is the way that Lisp can easily handle large decimal and hexadecimal numbers, likely making this code rather compact when implemented. libtai usually packs time into an 8 or 16character hexadecimal sequence, so when checking output from other utilities and needing to convert or check a tai time these functions would make it real easy to do so from the REPL. License would be LGPL to start with, and I do see from your FAQ there are concerns with that. In the future switching it to GPLv3 or LLGPL might be a good option worth considering. I'd be developing under CLISP, perhaps others will chime in with testing on other platforms and provide patches. We have no problem with any of the open source licences. Only the experience to share that the more restrictive licences like GPL do not have a high regard in the larger community, meaning that if your code is GPL for example, there is a larguish number of lispers that is unlikely to ever use it. For many, and for the reasons explained in the FAQ, LGPL is too restrictive already. Regards, Mario. We are fairly liberal with respect to that. As long as you choose a different name, I have no problems with competing projects. That said, it would of course be nicer if you and S. Currently, I keep the files on common-lisp.net in my public_html/. People on #lisp want me to apply for a _real_ project, though. No hurry at all. Let me know if you need anything else from me. --Dwight Holman also at dholman at ecst.csuchico.edu (The address on my public key) From MAILER-DAEMON at yahoo.com Tue Dec 27 18:45:29 2005 From: MAILER-DAEMON at yahoo.com (MAILER-DAEMON at yahoo.com) Date: 27 Dec 2005 18:45:29 -0000 Subject: [admin] failure delivery Message-ID: <20051227185205.0DB6B88161@common-lisp.net> Message from yahoo.com.
